Food and Beverage: Harney & Sons Fine Teas

Blending more than teas, Harney family enjoys Dutchess County’s mix of farm and food culture

Dutchess County is the home of internationally renowned tea blender Harney & Sons, a family-owned-and-managed operation since getting its start in 1983 from the basement of founder John Harney. When the company began to take off, it quickly outgrew its premises in Connecticut. In the early 2000’s, second-generation brothers, Mike and Paul Harney took the helm and found a 90,00 square foot facility in Millerton, NY on a 20-acre site that was well set up for blending and packaging fine tea.

Out of its new headquarters, these tea masters now employ more than 200 people. The company uses every foot of its capacity to produce its current product line of about 500 different items and sells their teas in stores, like Target, worldwide. In addition to its production facility, Harney also has two cafes outlets in New York— its Millerton tea shop and cafe and a wildly popular SOHO, NY location.
